Citation guidelines
MiCoDa was designed with equitability in data reuse in mind. Data on MiCoDa is available and free for reuse by all, with appropriate acknowledgement of the data and metadata producers. Users who download data from MiCoDa, either as a full dataset or following dataset filtering agree to cite them using a DOI, or Digital Object Identifier. Appropriate citations foster transparency and reproducibility, while rewarding data creators and demonstrating the importance of data reuse.
MiCoDa citation information
Information about each sample in MiCoDa is included in the ‘metadata.csv’ file included with each download. Information about the publication associated with each sample is available in the DOI column. As all data in MiCoDa is available in its raw format in INSDC databases (i.e., NCBI, EBI, and DDBJ), MiCoDa retains the corresponding accession numbers in the sample IDs, available in the ‘metadata.csv’ and ‘asv_table.csv’ files.
How to cite
MiCoDa can be used in many different ways, and the rules for citation vary depending on usage.
Whenever MiCoDa (meta)data is used in any way, users should cite the MiCoDa dataset as well as the original MiCoDa publication. This citation is necessary regardless of whether the whole dataset or only parts of it are used. MiCoDa should also be cited in this way when only MiCoDa metadata are used (e.g., for identifying or filtering samples, or to enrich INSDC metadata).
Whenever a subset of collections is used, users should additionally cite the original publications using the provided DOIs.

Whenever all of MiCoDa is used, citing the MiCoDa dataset as well as the original MiCoDa publication is sufficient.
